i recently go the new motherboard from evga, the nforce 680i which has dual gigabit lan ports....my friend who has a mobo with two ports as well has it setup so that the internet comes from the moden into a port and out the other port into the router...so that the pc doesnt have to go through the router....i tried doing the same thing he did which was bridging the two connections...they both show that they are connected but my internet doesnt work, i havent tried if it is being passed to the router cuz i havent used my laptop....if anyone could help me out please...thanks

if this was a monowall, ipcop, etc box i could understand. however, judging from the sig it sounds like this is his gaming rig.

bypassing the router isnt going to improve your latency. if anything, this setup would slow it down because ALL outbound traffic has to pass through it. if you have it setup this way to bypass the routers natting and host your own server, again your going about it the wrong way.

Networking is No plumbing, it is Not water coming into one port and getting out through the Other.

Bridging is to Bridge two networks.

Internet connetions to be fed into two devices needs to be Routed (Not just Bridged).

Since you have a computer and a Router connected at the entry you need a Router to Route between your computer and your Hardware Router.

So you can either get two external IP, or use ICS (Software Router).
