Network Bridge in XP Home

Got my new Dell 8250 running XP Home. For some reason, unlike my other comptuer running XP Pro, I have Network Bridge. I can get an IP from the DHCP server, but cannot see other computers on the network. When I deleted the bridge, I cannot get my LAN connection to obtain an IP.

What is going on here? Do I need to have the bridge enabled? It was bridging LAN and my Firewire connection.

How can I repair the network?

TIA

The bridge isn't necessary, unless you actually do want to bridge two networks, e.g. your machine is connected to both an ethernet and a firewire network and you want the 2 networks to be jointed together seemlessly. When you deleted the bridge, I suppose you might have zapped a setting somewhere.

Rather than me try togive a flawed discussion of what steps to follow, your best bet is to probably check out Windows XP Network Troubleshooting. The preliminary steps part will probably tell you what you need. Good luck.
