Network-Based Calendar Software?

I was recently asked by my brother on whether there are company calendar software available. His company is looking for software that will allow their employees to view/access the same (single) company calendar from their computers, with one person (secretary) managing the company calendar.

They did consider getting Exchange for all their employees and using the Public calendar feature to implement this idea, but found that it was too expensive to get the Exchange server and individual Exchange client licenses for all 45 employees just to have that public calendar feature.

Does anyone know of any good calendar software that does network calendar sharing/management?

One of our offices use OfficeCalendar, it doesn't require an Exchange server, just Outlook. It works really well for their office with 15 employees all accessing it.

Our company is small and we use a hosted Exchange solution from MailStreet. It's a much cheaper option that hosting and maintaining Exchange internally (for a company our size, anyway).

I thought about suggesting Zimbra, but there are things about it I don't like. For one thing, it's owned by Yahoo and with MS looking to buy Yahoo, Zimbra's open source future could be shaky. Granted, someone could probably just fork the code.

The other thing is, the open source edition is stripped down, although still very full-featured.

I'm really excited about Tine 2.0. It's a complete rewrite started by members of eGroupware and the early screenshots look like it has a very clean and professional interface.

It isn't an explicit calendar program, but Essential PIM does have network capabilities, and I absolute love the program. It's stable, you can have a server for the data files, encrypted, password protected... It's great.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. :)

Right now, I'm testing out WebCalendar, and it seems to be exactly what my brother's company is looking for.

Just in case one of the other suggestions doesn't work out, you might have a look at Chandler.

It's pretty weird, but it's also pretty amazing. I introduced a friend's company to this software a few months ago, and they are absolutely loving it. It's especially useful if you want some e-mail functionality with your calendar system. And, it's OSS.

Hmmm, I wasn't looking around for this particular thing, but I am interested in some of these products, marked for later.
