Does anyone have experience with using/setting up either of the following two items?

1. SMC SMC7208SBR Router/Firewall/Network Storage/Print Server

2. Asante FriendlyNET FR5037 similar in function to the SMC one

If so, how well do they work, pros/cons/gotchas?

We are looking to possibly use one of these at our remote office sites.

Hey Ray - talked to my co-worker. He has the Asante model 3000LC (the one under the one you want), but his has the print server ability. He said the one good thing about the Asantes is the large amount of documentation that they make available for them. He also indicated that the Asantes were "frame capable", meaning I assume they'll work on frame-relay networks too...

Since he just got it last week, he's still testing by using so couldn't offer much else other than it works pretty good.

I have started leaning towards the Asante due to the fact there are more hard drive sizing options so we could custom fit the appliance to each remote office, or upgrade if needed. 😀

We are probably going to get one of them to check out to make sure they work with our VPN and live up to claims. 🙂
