Network and XP Pro ... keep getting dropped

What an annoyance....
I just did a fresh install of XP PRO on my GW6400
I'm connected to the internet thru cable modem

If I don't use my computer for 3-4 hours, I cannot connect anymore to the internet
keep seeing ... detecting proxy setttings (nothing connects)
I've tried ipconfig /release and then /renew (works 20% of the time)
ipconfig shows that I should be OK for another 2-3 days;
resetting modem doesn't help either!

HELP!!!!

Thanks

I ran into a customers system that perplexed us for quite a while. It would constantly lose connection to the cable modem. Finally installed a router in between the computer and the modem and we haven't heard from him since.

Also, you might change the internet connection/lan setting, so that you don't search for a proxy server. Though that usually only slows your initial connection. Turning it off may not help but you don't need to detect a proxy, unless your running one.
