i need a free network ananlyzer, something like languard but free...it is for a home network and i want to test the laptop to make sure nothing is open and easily exploited

nMap? It doesn't check services but it will find out if the computer is leaving ports open. The only issue will be if you have File sharing enabled because that will open a few ports.
 
You could have told us what languard is...

You could use the standard: nessus.
OpenVAS is a forked implimentation of nessus.
nmap is useful, although it doesn't quite give the same information.
