Network adapter stops working when DVD Burn

This is a bit strange to me.

I have a pretty normal WinXP system with an AMD Athlon 1700 and 256 MB of RAM.

I've been using my DVD-ROM drive and DVD-R to backup some of my DVD collection.

I'm using DVD Shrink to decode, compress and burn the DVD info.

During the process, my computer always loses connection to my wireless network. I am connecting through a Hawking Technology USB adapter to a 802.11g home network.

The system still detects the adapter, but it is unable to detect any wireless networks. (there are about 7 in range)

Once the process is complete, the network card resumes functioning.

I was just wondering if there are any known issues with DVD-Burning (or the cpu intensive decryption) that would explain why my wireless adapter stops working.

Thanks,

Josh
