I have two ethernet cards in both my PC and Mac. I was wondering if I could use a crossover cable to network them. Doesn't seem to want to work. The Mac assigns itself a 169.X IP, but I can't get it to do anything else. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

you'll need to manually set the IP addresses.

just use 192.168.1.100 with a mask of 255.255.255.0

and on the other machine 192.168.1.101

Keep in mind, depending on the mac, you may not need a crossover cable. A lot of macs will sense the connection and flip the twisted pair to turn itself into a crossover.
