Hi, my friend and i are trying to network 2 computers in one house to share a dsl connection so that we can both play cs or go on the net at the same time. Both computers have integrated ethernet and one also has an fa311 pci nic card. They are both running win98, whats the best way to hook the two up? thanks.

Pick which one will always be on, call it PC1 (recommended win2k on this one)

Put 2 NICs in PC#1

Go DSL - pc#1.

Crossover cable between pc1 and pc2

Enable ICS on PC1

Set them both up to use subnet 255.255.255.0

Have pc#2 set up with gateway and dns as 192.168.0.1

Set IP of pc#1 to 192.168.0.1

Make sure both PC's have NETBUI installed

Sure I left something out, but you get the idea.

NETBUI makes it a lot easier for dumbos like me to get computers to give each other permission to their shared drives (This is for win2k, he has 9x but hopefully he gets 2k sometime ;) )

Get a router with a switch built into it...

The linksys 4 port router for like $129 would be great for you, then that way you don't have to do ics and all that crap...
