I just checked Netscape ftp site and noticed all the new folders. Only prob is that they didn't let me in.

LEMME IN!! LEMME IN!!

Anyway, the only thing I managed to get were the new skins, but I haven't figured out how to get them to work yet 🙁

So it seems that the final verion will be here anytime now. Mabe they were waiting for the elections and now are having to change their plans. Remember when they launched version4 on Christmas eve?

The main reason I want to use it is for the better mail filtering tools they are offering, and I'll be very happy if the browser itself is more stable and less slugish then pr3.

Hmmm... I don't like this new of posting without the other posts being viewed. Hope they change this.

Well about the new Netscape, it seems that I got to see more then they wanted last night as the root folders are all locked up right now.

But so that you guys don't feel I'm completely full of it, here is the address for the new skins(chromes, themes, whatever).

ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/themes/english/6.0

Use IE to get there, it works. Netscape on the other hand can't make it through. At least mine didn't.

hey about Mozilla..

what is it exactly? I know that netscape and Mozilla used to be the same thing (correct?)..

so please, inform me, because I don't want to get the one from netscape.com, cause I hear this one's better!

Well, until Netscape gets their act together and their browser can view most pages I found one that I liked. Neoplanet. So far it's pretty cool. I believe it uses the IE engine but it's very customizable and I like that.

? netscape 4.7 here, and I can view almost EVERY webpage..

Netscape 6 PR2 was alot better for Java then Netscape 4 is, I tried it!

so can someone please give me info on Mozilla? I've checked their page, and don't quite understand it.

Well, Mozilla used to be the name of the engine powering Netscape.
For instance, if you used the environ vars to obtain browser version, you'd allways get Mozilla x from a Netscape browser, where X is the version.

But when Netscape open sources the whole deal, Mozilla became the name of the project, sorta like Linux.

Basically, Mozilla is now just a browser engine, that anyone can use to make their own browser, but of course, its also a browser as well.

Sorta like some people claim Quake3 isnt really a game, but rather a demo of the Q3 engine(something I personally dont agree with).

Mozilla is the engine of the new Netscape 6. Its open sourced and includes contributions from programmers all over the world. Mozilla Seamonkey is the browser that's based on the latest Mozilla code. It is compiled everyday(nightly builds) for testing/verification purposes, but every now and then a milestone build is compiled for public testing/verification. The milestone builds are more stable/tested than the nightly builds, which are understandably buggier. Currently the latest milestone build is M18.
As for Communicator 6, I think Netscape just grab a version of Mozilla and stick a Netscape sticker on it.

For years I used Netscape starting with the original version and upgrading each time a new version came out. For years my various computers crashed all too often without any obvious reason. For years I resisted using Internet Explorer simply because it is a Microsoft Product and it pisses me off that I am forced to load it even if I do not want to use it. About six months ago I suffered one too many crashes associated with Netscape. I tried Internet Explorer and found it more or less offers the same features etc. that Netscape does. I also found, most importantly, that it rarely, if ever, crashes any of my computers. I also discovered that removing Netscape releases a lot of megabytes of hard disk space. This is especially important on two of my older laptops with small hard drives. My Netscape days are over and frankly, from my own experience, I cannot understand why anyone would want to run something as crash prone as Netscape. Just my two cents.

posting from Mozilla.. it's pretty cool. I'll try it for a while.

btw, Netscape rarely ever crashes on me! and when it does, it doesn't take the system down with it.

if you had a problem with netscape crashing, how did you install it? right at the beginning of installation?

I used IE as well as Netscape. not just as a temporary thing, but as a total dependance on it, and I found that it was pretty good, until the end, when (probable because of me not reformatting for a while!) it would constantly crash, and screw the rest of the computer up.

that's when I decided I'd stick with Netscape, and this mozilla works pretty slick!

Hey, I use netscape. Actually, I use both Netscape and IE. They both have their pros and cons. I also keep a copy of Mozilla and Opera, just to cover my bases when creating websites.
