<< ``The browser is a crown jewel. However, six months from now, you won't consider Netscape to be a browser company,'' Netscape President Jim Bankoff told Reuters in an interview, referring to its early role in creating the first popular tool for surfing the Web.

The shift recognises the overwhelming dominance of the Internet Explorer
(IE) browser produced by arch-rival Microsoft Corp and frees AOL to focus on new media markets now taking shape on computers, phones and television.

<< damn IE is officially #1 now.. that is not good.. people start using Opera. >>

What's wrong with IE? Opera doesn't display all web pages correctly...

Netscape has always sucked, why is this surprising?

NS has always been slower than IE. I've never experienced it crashing less than IE, and even if it did, IE opens faster anyway so it makes up for it 😉

OTOH, IE seems to be getting worse with every new version...

I'll have to agree with IE getting worse with each release. Hell, I can't even post news to the Anandtech main site with IE 6.0.
