Of course, you always have the option of not using Smart Download. If you use Netscape (I do), another good trick is to make COOKIES.TXT a zero byte, read-only file.
To do this from the DOS command line, go to the directory where COOKIES.TXT is stored and enter the command, REM>COOKIES.TXT. This creates the zero byte file, overwriting your old file. Then enter ATTRIB +R COOKIES.TXT. This marks is as read-only.
Now, you can set your browser to accept all cookies. Each site will "think" it has written to your cookie file, but uh-uh. If you ever need a specific cookie, all you have to do is unmark the read-only attribute, either from DOS or Windoze. About the only thing you can't do is have this forum remember your log on info, a small price to pay for the added security.
There may be a way to do this in IE, but it would probably be more difficult because IE uses multiple cookie files. The only time I use IE is for Windoze updates, because M$ seems to have made it manditory, following which I go into WINDOWS\COOKIES and nuke all cookie files.
