background...
-i have an email account from an isp in a different city, i have had it for the past 6years and i refuse to give it up
-when i relocated, i got a dsl from qwest
-as you may know, qwest sold it's home user dsl accounts to msn
-msn does a bunch of different things than qwest
-i use netscape email reader, and i realllly, reallly don't want to switch

problem:
i cannot send email w/ netscape, it is a setting in the outgoing smtp

the instructions say to turn on in OUTLOOK "My server requires authentication" and " Log on using Secure Password Authentication"...

netscape doesn't seem to have these options....help!

in netscape preference, go to:
mail & newsgroup => mail servers => Use SSL or TSL for outgoing message.

i don't know if it's the equivalent of the one in outlook though. let's hope it is :)

another thing is that you may want to check if msn has support for smtp mail.
if it does, just use that email account as the smtp authentication while keeping your email address as is.

what i mean is (if you haven't done that):
for mail identity, use the information on your email (you @ isp . com)
for incoming mail server, use whatever you have right now (your own pop server)
for outgoing mail server, use msn's smtp account and smtp server setting.

that way you can send email out using their authentication scheme (which i don't quite understand actually), while still make others think that you are sending email from your pop account and should reply to that account.

not really sure how to explain this better, but oh well ..

no good, i tried all that before i put up the post..

i set the outgoing smtp server to smtp.email.msn.com and the user name to either captain_zemo or captain_zemo@msn.com (as instructed) i get an error message...sorry can't remember the msg. I also tried setting it for one of my work email servers (that does allow for mail relaying), and i get a different error message. i tried all of the abouve combinatations with and with out the SSL or TSL.

f@cking micro$oft....grrr...
