Netscape blows hard!

Okay, I'm working on a layout for a web site and I made some MAJOR changes tonight (this morning...whatever) and it works perfectly in IE but in NS6/Mozilla5 and NS4.7, it's not so perfect. I've gone over the code dozens of times and the errors just don't make any sense. Like, the problem in NS4.7 isn't even remotely related to what it is doing. The NS6 problem might be the fault of the browser, otherwise, it's just some very odd coding that I did.

I don't know, I'm just extremely frustrated because it's fine in IE but not working quite right in NS.

I guess I understand why microsoft builds IE in, if they didn't, and NS was the most used browser, they'd be getting a lot of complaints. Or maybe not, I don't know, I'm just talking out my ass.

Although, everything I'm bitching about makes no sense since most web sites work perfectly fine with Netscape. What's really happening is that I'm making mistakes and I can't find them.

I'm going to sleep...I'll deal with finding the problems with a lil rest and a brain and eyes that are functioning better in the morning.

Please add your Nutscrape...errr...Netscape woes and complaints to this thread. I don't care how minor, I just need people to bitch with about this. :)

G'night and thanks for reading this senseless jabbering.

I fondly recall the way back in the day (1994-1996) when Netscape 1.1 would fit on a 1.44 floppy and there was no stinkin' real audio, streaming, FLASH this FLASH that, Netscape was king, 56k was fast, ISDN was super human fast (and costly and a pain in the ass to install).

Ah the good 'ole days.

<< Netscape handles java so poorly... >>

Java or javascript? Cuz I'm having a slight issue with javascript.

Please continue the bitching. :)

Okay, well, I'm going to sleep.

I would like to see many complaints by the time I wake up in 6-8 hours! :D

BTW, this is a good response...I feel so...comforted. :p

Netscape used to be awesome. I loved it back before that communicator crap came out when AOL bought out the company. Totally downhill from there.

I'm so happy that Netscape is going to stop making the Netscape browser. Then I don't have to support the wretched thing either.

It seems no one uses Netscape anymore anyways. All my multiple website stats give Netscape about a 5% pull anymore.

So not sad.

Netscape was king back in the day. It was the best. When IE came out, I swore I'd never use it, as it was more crap from Microsoft, and another platform to support... but my resistance didn't last very long.

Netscape went down the crapper, IE was faster...

I like netscape!

If you are having issues with netscape Java and or Javascript, when you are testing make sure you have Java installed. It does not come as part of the package in the basic netscape browser. (Or at least it didn't several months ago when I was at a conference and we were discussing this with a developer of Mozella)

Secondly, check out your damm code. See if it even complies with the specs that Java code is SUPPOSED to be compliant with. A vast majority of code out there esp stuff writen using Visual Java from MS's old stuff doesn't even come close.

Good luck!

God Bless the OSF, the FSF, Linux and all those working on Open Source Code!

heh

the only people who use NutScrape are old people who need to use IE anyway because they don't have enough time left for NutScrape to load anyway.

You little insolent. No TV for you for the rest of the week!!

BTW Netscape drives me nuts when making a website as well. Well it drives me nuts while surfing too, but I still prefer it and won't switch till IE finishes stealing the features that I like most. Like virus-free email, bookmarks management, open frame in new window, view image, print preview, send page on right click, the preferences' layout and options, and last but not least I want IE to be separated from Windows.

So it looks like I'll be using 4.77 for a long time....

In the mean time if you show the specific code, maybe I can help you bashing Netscape a little more.

Netscape is ok. Mozilla is much better.

IE has only a few of the functions Mozilla has and is a real pain to work with. Also, for some mysterious reason IE doesn't load many images on a page at some occassions, where NS and Mozilla don't have any problems.

And regarding your problems with NS/Mozilla, I've had more problems with IE than with Mozilla/NS. Like said before, webdesigning is an art which takes some time to learn. Your skills aren't yet perfected until you can create a page which looks (nearly) identical in all browsers, provided that those render HTML/XML according to the W3c guidelines. Those browsers include Mozilla, NS 6.x and Opera. IE is NOT W3c compliant and MS has added many HTML tags which are IE-only. I always avoid those tags as the plague.

I'm no netscape fan either, but remember, your site(s) are there for others to see. You need to build your site non-browser specific. I don't see a Linux vesion of IE on the horizon, and as more desktops go linux, you may cut a large chunk of your audience out by building IE-compliant only web sites.

How about a link to your page?

Yeah, I decided to delete the part of the page that was getting f'ed up in Netscape.

It's fine in all browsers now.

I'll link it later.
