I have only just learnt about DD-WRT fw and its ability to enhance a standard broadcom wifi router, but i have also come across the Draytek 2900 series of wifi routers which come standard with Qo:confused:S.

Im hoping that someone in this community has experience with both products and can differentiate them (apart from the initial cost).

Thanks in advance.

PS. A little about my current set up.
Motorola Cable Modem -> Linksys SPA 2102 ATA -> D-Link DI714P+ wifi router.
I also have a D-Link 2100AP (Repeater Mode) which i cant get to work properly.

I have a granny flat at the far end of the back yard (about 30m from the 714P+ Access Point) and i need to get a good clean signal to it. The 2100AP should do the job, but i just cant get it working right, and im considering upgrading to some new gear.

The Draytek V2900VG could replace the SPA2102 ATA and the DI714P+, or i could simply replace the DI714P+ with a DD-WRT enabled wifi router.

Hence the question for this thread about the comparison of functionality of the DD-WRT enabled wifi router versus the Draytek.

I do not know what country you are posting from?

In the USA you can get this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833162173

As is it does not do Qos, But it is a better Wireless Router than the Vigor.

With DD-WRT the above Router does Qos and much more, and it is ?far far? better than the Vigor.

In top of all I think it is also half the price of the Vigor.

P.S. As far as I know Draytek does not conduct business in the USA, I think that few vendors bring the hardware over but it is usually over priced on retail.

Edit: looking again at your post I would guess that you are from the UK (The granny flat, and 30m). ;)

Draytek has a strong presence in the UK.
Whatever I stated technically holds. Howvever price vise it is your call.

Thanks JackMDS,

Im in Australia.

I can get the Buffalo you linked in Australia as well as the Linksys WRT54G variants, and the Diamond Digital R100 all of which are DD-WRT upgradeable.

The only reason why the Vigor caught my eye was because it also has VOIP (2x FXS ports) so it represents an all in one solution.

I am not sure which routers that are DD-WRT capable also have Voip though.

There is a VOIP version of DD-WRT.

However check it carefully, I do not have a clue about it.

In general I dislike combos, they might save few $$, and the need to deal with additional plastic box. But if any thing needs to be upgraded you have to dump the whole unit.

In addition, the Router and Wireless parts of combo are very mediocre; the Brands do not put state of the Art components into the Combos.

As an Example, I am using the same DSL modem for the last 4 years, but I already changed the Wireless Router three times.
