Netmeeting audio difficulties

I promise I'm not an idiot. I can't get my microphone to register in Netmeeting.

I can hear my friend just fine when he speaks. I can use Sound Recorder to record my voice. I have run the Audio Tuning Wizard, and I can see the green bar bouncing when I read the sample passage. I can even hear myself over my speakers or headphone speaking into the mic.

The problem is that Netmeeting refuses to hear me. It doesn't register my speech at all. And yes, the microphone button is checked "on."

And for reference, I am using Windows XP and version 3.01 (4.4.3400) of Netmeeting.

This is getting desperately annoying. Any help is appreciated.

Got an ATI video card? They write drivers for some cards that will sometimes automatically mute or deselect the microphone when running an A/V program (like NetMeeting). There are also issues if two audio devices are installed...for example, you've got an onboard CMI chipset, then added an SB, that kind of thing.
