Netgear Wirless router problem

my friend recently installed a new Netgear wireless router and now hes having Internet troubles. He has DSL and he can't connect to the Internet now unless he cycle the DSL modem at least twice. Once hes connected he can surf as long as he don't manually type in an address. For instance he can get to www.anandtech thru my Favorites, but if he type in the address he get there and immediately get an error report that shuts down Internet Explorer.

I know with insight you have to register your new hardware but nit sure with DSL. Anyone have any ideal what could be his problem? I'm going to stop after work and take a look at it.

this problem sound wierd like its spyware causing it or a virus. if you already checked and found neither, see if firefox has that problem, also, if you opened explorer insteadof iexplore, does manually typing the address have this problem?
