8 houses down is how far exactly? You'll probably need a directional antenna setup if you have direct line of sight. But I'm not sure how far 8 houses is in your particular case.

As long as you have line of site to his house you can do one of a few things.
Firstly he will have to get an Access Point for his end, the best would be something like a d-link which has a removable antenna, but any brand with a removable antenna will do.

Then you need to build two directional antennas to connect the two networks. The cheapest way would be two cantennas do a google search for more info and design schematics. You can buy antennas online as well if you don't want to build them yourself. Once you have the two antennas you simply need to connect them to your existing equipment, and put up some sort of structure to support them on your roofs, and then you will be able to configure them as if they were in the same house.

Good luck.

that's nice, but on his end ,he doesn't want to configure or remove the antenna. so, i would do all the "retouch" on my side. and do you think if i should get an linksys or d-link access point ,will that do the trick?

You are completely out of luck, If he will not set up a directional antenna in an optimal location for you. Don't waste any more time or money on the idea, and if he might change his mind, print this out and show him. There is absolutley no other way, for that distance.
You can alternatively buy a WAP and hook it into his network, but you need directional antennas at both locations, with good placement.
Edit: Kaiynne has it all right.
