Netgear WGT624v2 Doesn't Like Wireless

The two wireless devices I have in my home right now are my wife's laptop and my new t-mobile MDA Smartphone. I've been noticing that from time to time when my wife tries to use the wireless internet connection, the router will stop responding and I'll have to go into the office and power-cycle it to get the connection back.

Tonight I was able to configure my smartphone to connect to my father's wireless network (he has the WGT624v3) and had no issues. When I got to my own home later tonight and tried to connect to my WGT624v2, the router reboots itself after the attempt to connect is made.

I'm sitting here right in front of the router and watching it do this every time I tell the phone to connect. The power indicator will turn orange, then go black, then the router will restart.

What is it about this router that's doing this? Anyone know how I can fix it?

ESIT: Ack... wrong forum (General Hardware). Can a mod please move this to Networking? Thanks.

Yeah... tell me about it. Let's say there's no hope for this piece of hardware. As an alternative, which route(r) should I be going for?

My Netgear WGT624v2 Router works flawlessly now. I did have problems where the router reset itself every so often (could happen every few minutes even).

I thought I was using the latest Firmware, AutoUpdate said there was no new firmware. What I did was I visited the UK Netgear site (Im in/from the UK) and found the latest firmware for my Router and used it. Download, Flash and voila..... Ive had 1-2 resets/network problems since I flashed it probably around 3 months ago.

Its possible that your Netgear has the same problem and GamerExpress.... whats so wrong with Netgear? Ive not heard any bad stories about them, at least not in any 'I'll avoid this brand totally' quantity.

Firmware Version: V4.2.8_1.0.1

Hope this helps. Off to bed now but Il'll check back tomorrow morning before work.

Well, no luck. The router still reboots after the phone tries to cycle through what it thinks are the available connections.

I like netgear... My parents are still using an RP114 router I set up for them, maybe 4 or 5 years ago, and it has been flawless the entire time (and given my younger brother's downloading habit, it's been 'active' that entire time, too).

Id give them all a blast. Working with hardware, I dont think even if you have 100% identical situations that you get 100% identical results. That firmware worked for me but a different one may be best for you.

The router works well, does its job with a minor upset every so often. Nothing that a forced reset doesnt sort and its fine for weeks.

When I had my problems, the router reset and would kick all wired (both upstairs PC's) and the wireless one (downstairs). No internet access, no network for a few minutes and it could reset several times in a 10 minute period or it could stay stable for several hours. Flashing firmware solved my problems.

Hope your solution is as easy.
