Netgear WGT624 v3 problem with xbox live.

Hello all, I bought a wireless network adapter for my 360, and when i use the IP test it fails. I have a netgear WGT624 v3 wireless router (latest firmware), and i've tried a few things to get it to work. I made the Xbox IP 192.168.1.8 manually, then in my netgear settings advanced port forwarding page, made the xbox a service running from port 88-3074 as netgears suggested, and added its IP.

I also put in the gateway code and subnet mask values that my netgear settings provided in the xbox network settings manually. I have Internet IP address checked for GET DYNAMICALLY FROM ISP in my netgear settings, should i put it as USE STATIC IP ADDRESS ?

I use Blueridge cable broadband if that matters, and webstar modem.

What kind of encryption are you using? These kinds of problems are almost always encryption related.

Turn off all encryption/security and try again. Also just let the XBOX get an IP address from the router. Makes things easier.

i am using a WEP encryption. It asked me to enter in the long code when starting the xbox live network configurations, and it was detected, and has a signal strength displayed.

Well, I turned off the WEP encryption, and it work, but now i have no protection from people tapping into my wireless router, how would i be able to have a WEP AND use xbox live?

You just have to make sure the keys match on the router and the client (xbox).

See if you can use WPA for encryption, it's more secure and a little easier to use. Just pick a combination of say 3 words with a number or two and use that for a "passphrase" or key.

Would i have to reconfigure the rest of my network if i used WPA? Also can i turn the WEP back on now if it already detected the xbox and gave it and allowed it in the network?

Regarding encryption - yes, you would need to change any client that connects wirelessly. Easy change.

If you turn WEP back on you will still need to enter the key on the xbox. It's very easy to mistype these longs keys. Eitherway if it works without entryption then the keys definately don't match if you have no IP connectivity.
