OK I'll be honest - I know nothing about networking - I'm a web designer. MY question is...

I bought a Netgear WGR614v5 wireless router and wanted to hook it up to an existing network. My friend set it up as a WAP - he's good and I trust him, but here's my question.

My laptop isn't wireless yet so I have no way of determining if it was successful or not, but the light that supposed to come on when it's sending a wireless signal isn't coming on. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this router and knows if this is normal or not when set up as a WAP.

Unless he disabled the wireless antenna broadcast, it should be working fine. THey are always turned on by default. Only way to know for sure is to either log into the router via the Ip address and check the settings, or find someone that has a wireless card that you can use to see if it detects the router.
