Netgear WGR614 DHCP problem

I've just switched to a cable supplier and installed a WGR614 cable modem to replace my DG834 ADSL wireless router.

I've set everything up and (with the old router disconnected) used the same SSID and WEP settings so my wireless stuff will run as normal.

With the router working as a DHCP server and the ISP's modem plugged into the WAN side, everything looks OK in the set up but the router issues out of range IP addresses to devices that I connect up and they then can't see the internet connection etc.

I've set the range as 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.20 but if I reboot the wireless laptop or a wired PC, wired print server etc, half the time they won't connect. If I check the assigned IP address it's in the range 192.168.2.xx

I've tried setting MAC address reservations for all the devices and when they connect properly, they use the address I reserved (still in the 1.10 to 1.20 range) but when they don't work as planned, the devices I can check are showing the incorrect 192.168.2.xx address.

With a PC I can easily check the assigned address but with the print server, IP phone etc, I have no way to check. If a PC is assigned the wrong address, I can't use it to access the router setup pages and nor does the router report that any of the 192.168.2.xx addressed items are connected. No problem if it correctly assigns 192.168.1.xx, everything works as planned.

Any tips as I can't find anything on the Netgear KB.

Hmm. If the Router core IP is in the 192.168.2.x you can not set the DHCP to 192.168.1.x.

I.e set the DHCP to 192.168.2.10 to 192.168.2.10, or change the core IP of the Router.

You can download and run this free proggie on any computer that has a valid connection to the Router, it would show the valid IPs including the one for the printer.

Thanks Jack. I installed the software scanner but it can't see the print server (although the router reports it connected by a steady green light). The core IP of the router is it's default of 192.168.1.1. There is no reference to 192.168.2.xx in any of the settings.

Just doing a scan of the range 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 and will report back.

A further update. Spoke to Netgear support who reminded me that you need to do a reset after a firmware upgrade (I'd forgotten). Nevertheless, this didn't solve the problem and they admitted a hardware fault, so the unit has gone back for replacement. Hooked up my DG834 ADSL router as the ADSL connection is still up for a few more days (on a different phone line) and everything back to normal. Let's hope the new router solves this problem.
