Ive got bellsouth fastaccess DSL service.. ive got a Netgear RT314 router... ive got 3 computers w/ Network cards that I want connected to the internet... I know that the only external modems that are compatible w/ Bellsouth's fastaccess are Alcatel... the two that it comes down to are the Alcatel 1000 ADSL modem, or the Speed Touch home ADSL modem.... any suggestions?? will they both work w/ the router and allow me to connect all 3 of my computers to the internet??

Just make sure you get a modem that uses the ethernet cable to connect to your computer, not a usb port. You can not use the usb ones with the router.

thanks acexg1, but i figured that much out.. i just cant seem to find any specs on the Alcatel 1000 ADSL modem... does anybody know why the Alcatel Speed Touch Home DSL modem sells for so much more?? why its better or a link to a page w/ specs on both of these... i checked alcatel's web-site and they have specs for the Speed Touch but not for the 1000.... thanks in advance...

Thanks JackMDS...so a one port router huh.. would i be able to hook that one port router up to my RT314 and then route from that to my 3 comps??

If it is a Router you will have to connect the 1000 to one of the switch's ports (not to the WAN), and you will have three ports left for three computers.

Make sure to use the right cable.

Uses RJ-45 straight-through cable from router to computer.
Uses RJ-45 crossover cable to hub/switch.

Ive decided to go with the speed touch home.. its a little bit more money but supposed to be a lot better. thanks for the tips JackMDS.... any more would be readily accepted...
