Anyone familiar with using the Netgear RT314 Gateway Router? I recently hooked up to a DSL connection with a local provider in Norfolk, VA- Cavalier is the ISP. No problems with the connection, until I try to use my Router for internet sharing on my LAN (just 2 home PCs).
Cavalier gives you a static IP address without PPOE, and when walking you through the initial setup, you enter the specific IP address and subnet. Also you add a Gateway address, and 2 DNS addresses. The problem is, that for configuring the Netgear router, you are asked to switch your network properties settings to 'Obtain an IP address automatically' instead of entering the specific IP address and subnet. Well that shouldn't be a problem, because you just enter the IP address and subnet with the Wizard configuration into the Router itself. There really is no other way it seems, because you cannot enter the Wizard configuration if your network properties are set to 'specific IP address'.
I've tried all kinds of different settings. I entered the my DNS settings in the Wizard config, I've tried to get it working with and without a Gateway address, with and without the MAC spoofing... all kinds of combinations, and nothing works.
The thing is, when I had Verizon DSL service, yes they used PPOE and a dynamic IP address, but configuration was a snap. With this static IP address it is very confusing!
Any suggestions? comments? helpful links?
Thanks!
