Hey,

Well alrite, a friend of mine who's running a Netgear RT311 Router and using the Sympatico HSE(High Speed Edition) Internet Service has run into an issue when trying to play online via direct IP to IP connections with me and other friends (AOE2/Expansion). When ever he tries to locate our games that we host off our PCs (no one else has a router, just plain cable or DSL) he can never seem to see it, which leads me to believe that there is something up with what ports his router allows access for input/output. Though according to Netgear's site this router does not support Port Ranging so you can't specifiy port ranges to keep open (from my understanding).

Anyways, does anyone have any suggestions as to how this problem could be fixed?

Any input is appreciated.

the new firmware supports port range forwarding.
also, u can just put the PC into the DMZ (forward all ports) while u r playing...

This is easy to fix with any level of the firmware. I have played AOK over the Internet without any troubles behind a RT311.

Here's what you do:

1. Have your friend telnet into their router.
2. Select 15 - SUA Server Setup (under Advanced Applications).
3. To the right of where it says default, enter the local IP address of the computer.

Example:

Port # IP Address
------ ----------
1.Default 192.168.1.10

4. Save changes.
5. Play!
