Netgear rt311, port forwarding?

How is port forwarding on this? I have a freesco router setup, and altho it's great, I can't get it to accept the IP from @Home dynamically. I know, it only changes very rarely... but I am only home during the summer, so it will most likely change when I'm not hear and I don't want to troubleshoot over the phone 🙁

Any input is appriciated.

The RT311 is limited to 10 ports you can forward, and not ranges. Very limited if you are used to the Freesco. Your best bet is to try to configure the router to get a dynamic IP. The Freesco will do it as that is how I have mine set up using the @home connection.

is there anything specific you did? Mine just hangs when trying to get an IP for the first ethernet card (the one hooked up to the cable modem)?
I like the freesco router, don't wanna have to buy another one 🙁

But why define ranges? Wouldn't that leave more ports open and have even less security?

Depends on what you want to open up. I use 20 ports just for each ICQ client do I can transfer files.

Make sure on the Freesco box to set the correct host name. setup #71

Also set make sure you have everything set in #91 to the correct settings.

FOr each ICQ client on my network I forward 20 ports. I started with 20000-20019 for the first one. I then had each ICQ client configured to use the ports Freesco was mapping to them. This allows you to have chat and file transfer functions.
