SOLVED: I finally got the reset sequence right and got to the Netgear access page to set it up as an access point. I'm still going to migrate to a mesh network, but this will help for now.

----------------------

I have a FIOS Gig connection and can't get my Netgear router to light up properly.

It was working, but I tried relocating it, and when it didn't reconnect I reset it, which threw things into a mess.

Sequence I am following.

Disconnect 6400 from the network and do a factory reset
Reset the FIOS router
connect the Netgear router to the Fios router, cable into the WAN Port
Power up the Netgear router
Cable to PC Ethernet port.
Power up PC.

PC can not get address from the Netgear router, so I can not get to it's admin page. When I try to connect either through wired or wireless connection it fails to connect.

When I look at the Fios router page, The Netgear device is online with an address of 192.168.1.248. It is listed as a bridge connection and the FIOSpage notes that it has underlying Wifi access point functionality.

6400 is listed as active on the FIOS dashboard, but fails a ping test.

Thanks,

Marc

Only One Router for regular LAN.

I.e., the Netgear has to be configured as a Switch with an Access Point.

Using Wireless Routers (or Modem/Wireless Router) as a Switch with an Access Point - http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

Thanks. Got it sorted. It just took several tries to reset the Netgear router and get it to wake up in a receptive mood to be turned into an access point.
