I've been trying to get this for 3 days now. When I try the google checkout, I keep getting a "The connection was reset" error... Any suggestions? Thanks.

I just tried your suggestions and still have the problem. I've just emailed the google checkout people. I've used google checkout before on another site, so I know it CAN work. :) Thanks for your help!

So how is everyone's experiences with connecting to a 100mbps router while using gigabit on their computer? I read some cases that it runs slow or not very well. I bought one because I'm always transfering files between a few computers in the house and they all have gigabit onboard, just no gigabit switch.

I've been doing that for a couple years, first with a 5-port D-Link gigabit switch and more recently with a Netgear 8-port GS108 switch (the one linked above for $34.99 AR). No problems. And there shouldn't be -- each port on these switches should auto-sense the speed of the connected device (10, 100, or 1000mbps) and behave appropriately.

Nice deal.
I'm a bit of a networking noob. Just to verify, you cannot use a switch to share an internet connection, correct? I'm splitting a comcast connection between two computers with a router right now but I'd like to lose the firewall.

Sure you can. Have DHCP turned on on the cable modem, have the tcp/ip settings on the computers set to 'obtain an ip address automatically'. Of course don't know why you couldn't just turn the firewall off on your router.

The router is an older D-Link and I have not been able to find any options for turning the firewall off. Same goes for my nice 3com router as well.

How to hook up your home networking devices:

Your Internet(from wall) --> your cable modem --> your Router --> gigabit Switch -->
all your PCs & laptops in your house

This way, you have all your PCs running gigabit LAN while sharing the Internet connection!

Thanks to the OP for the heads up on this deal.

My SMC gig switch is starting to flake out, Hopefully the GS108 will fix my issues.

This switch also supports jumbo frames! Make sure to enable jumbo frames on your clients for better gig-e performance.

Shoot! It's up to $25 AR... still good but I wish I could've gotten in before the price jump... decisions decisions.
