netgear nic wont work with xp???

I tried to install the netgear pci adapter FA311. I updated the drivers and it looks it's working with the cable modem as it shows the light flashing. However, I still cannot access into the internet.... Why??? Im getting very frustrated with it. I tried everything including trying latest the driver or other earlier version. Still not working at all. I also tried to correct the connection status, still not working at all... It just wont let me access into internet or email client...

Any suggestion would be nice...

Is your computer connected directly to your cable modem?

I would check to make sure that you have obtained an IP address and the DNS server addresses. Use the ipconfig /all in command prompt to find out this information.

Then if thats all fine and dandy, I would try pinging an external host using the IP address. Here is the IP address of www.yahoo.com: 64.58.76.178

If you get a response, then try pinging Yahoo again, except this time use www.yahoo.com instead of the ip address.

Also, make sure your firewall isn't the one causing a problem.

Yes the cable internet is all set. It was running fine until i swtiched the new nic cuz i hate "Wake-On-Lan" that causes the modem goes crazy flashing even when the computer is off... So, I wanna try the new netgear nic to see if it helps. My goal is to "shut up" the data flashing on the modem when I turn the computer off. It's annoying me when I m working on the desk.

I learned that my friend has this netgear nic and it doesnt flash the light when it is off. I wanna try that one.

How can I test the ping while I cannot access internet??? Maybe I should try ping this time. Also try first thing is to shut down the firewall and see what happens...

Thanks...

You should try pinging with an IP address first to see if its a problem with your DNS server. If your DNS server is down then you can still access the internet if you use IP addresses, but if you type in www.google.com or something, it won't work.
