Netgear MR814v2 router - setup as a bridge / "infrastructure mode" ???

Here's how I currently have my network setup:

Comcast -> Modem -> Smoothwall Firewall -> Switch -> MR814v2 and other wired PCs.

Now, the reason I have it setup like this is so that the Smoothwall firewall can properly filter the internet traffic, and I can control it more than the Netgear router's simple nat filtering. I use the Netgear MR814v2 to provide wireless access to my laptop.

Currently I have the Netgear router setup like it was before, with it's own subnet (192.168.0.x I think) and it provides dhcp to that subnet.

What I want to do is setup the Netgear router to act as a bridge (infrastructure mode). I downloaded the .pdf manual, but it doesn't specifically say how to do it, or how it works in the end. Basically I'd like my main firewall to provide dhcp service to the wireless devices, and have those devices on the same subnet. I'd still like the Netgear router to filter by mac address though.

Has anyone done something similar to this? How did it work out for you? Is what I want to do even possible with this router???

I just completed this last night. Was up til 12:30 running cable and configuring the two routers. I've implemented this with the MR814v2. Here is my setup:

Comcast -> Modem -> Netgear MR814v2 -> SMC 7004BR -> Netgear MR614v1 and other wired PCs.

3 routers are used for:
MR814 -NAT Router/DHCP/Etc. (192.168.0.1)
7004BR - Print Server (192.168.0.2) DCHP is Disabled
MR614 - 54g Access Point (192.168.0.99) DCHP is Disabled

Works like a charm. I moved the MR612 closer to my wireless workstations to get a better connection (54mb now).

Just plug your pc in to the MR814, Disable DHCP and on the same screen change the device IP Address to .99 (assume you keeping the same non-routable address sufix) and then apply. Now plug this in to the router. Your wireless access point should now be able to route the wireless access to your router for DHCP, etc.

Let me know if I can help. :beer:

FYI...
If you other switches have wireless you'll have to disable them.
