Netgear MR314 hangs

I purchased a used Netgear MR314 router some months ago and all worked fine till a few weeks ago. The router now appears to hang randomly. There are two computers, a printer (via a cable/usb print controller) and an occasional laptop connected to this router. All three computers are running Windows XP. The only thing that appears to be a factor is if I flip from site to site or page to page within a site quickly. I have checked with Netgears support site and found no good answers. I have also re-flashed the router to the latest version.

In most cases I need to unplug the router for a few seconds and then restart the computers. Can anyone suggest any thing I can do to nail down this error or other things to try?

Thanks

Can you elaborate on the hanging? When it hangs, is it just that it stops transmitting internet data or can you no longer ping other computers on your network. Can you ping the router when it hangs? Can you access it's setup page (192.168.0.1)?

I had some problems with my router (314) hanging as well, but applying the latest firmware patch fixed those problems. When I was having problems with my router, I called the netgear technical support...I recommend you give them a call as well.

Clarification of hanging. Either I or my wife or both of us will be connected to the internet. We may be surfing or checking email and when it hangs, we will not be able to go to another site or refresh the page we were on. Email will error with a message of unable to reach pop3 server or similar. Local activities, like opening a document are not effected.

To re-connect, we will need to unplug the router and sometimes the cable modem and then re-start each computer.

I cannot say for sure if I can or cannot ping out or even ping the router. I will try this next time and confirm this.

I did upgrade the firmware on the MR314 to the latest version.

Both PC's are running XP Pro, the cable modem is a Toshiba.

Thanks for any advice.

I have had the same problem with the MR314. The latest firmware did fix it but it seems I get dropped from the internet from time to time now with the latest firmware. I think the MR314 has issues....but thats me.

So it isn't just me...

Mine will stop resolving URL's. After some time online, my XP Pro laptop will loose the connection and have to be rebooted. I can use an IP to get to a page, or I can stay at a site currently loaded.
