netgear/linksys gigabit nic vs. intel gigabit nic

the intel gigabit nics sell at a much higher price than the netgear/linksys type of nics. are the intel ones way better, eg. faster speeds, less resource usage?

Intel NICs are generally better quality, but may not be worth the price depending on your usage. I personally pay a bit more for Intel NICs, but the drivers are better for my platform of choice. I've had good luck with Linksys 10/100s in the past too, so I wouldn't hesitate to get a gigabit card from them. Generally, find the ones with the features you are looking for, and pick what is supported. If it's a work thing, get Intel. If it's for home use, it probably won't matter a whole lot. 😛

Anandtech did some 100mbit benchies a while back. IIRC, most of the cards were fairly close.
