BestBuy has unadvertized Netgear FA311 network card $4.97, no rebate, no pricematch.
Price was marked on the shelf at local BB.
They set this price to follow CompUSA $9.97-5MIR for this card.

Really good card for $5

Is the problem with ANY ECS boards or just K7S5A?

I was going to use it with older ECS Celeron board.
Now I may just switch NICs with another PC.

This board has A LOT of compatibility fits. The FA310 works great but stay away from the FA311.

Netgear messed this card up royally.

I had one for a long time and then switched to a D-Link 530TX+, which is frequently on sale at Best Buy and CompUSA for cheap. PLus the D-Link card works with Norton Ghost 2002 with a few modifications to the bootable ghost floppy, i.e. there are dos drivers for the 530TX+.

Many of the FA311's have ID's that say they are FA312 cards. So when you try and install the card in anything but XP, the install program can't find the proper driver and must be forced to load the FA311 driver from the disk, which is claims would be a bad idea. In XP the card is recognized and loaded as a FA312.

Netgear has a untility on their website that corrects this. After I ran the utility XP rerecognized my card as a FA311.

Here is the link to netgear site about this problem.

The version of FA3111 I got is FA35Cxxx and not listed as "possibly faulty" at netgear site.

I got the FA311 from Compusa. The card networks fine in Windows 98SE. But, it will not let me use Dial-Up Networking to dial my ISP. Has anyone else had this problem with this NIC or another card?

NICs are so cheap now, so i stay away from the fa311 and maybe netgear totally now since i have so many spare NICs in storage. AMD761 has probs with it, yes.

I used Linksys LNE 100TX, NC100U (a problematic one), D-Link 530TX and this one. I too switched from FA311 to D-Link. I think D-Link 530TX is the best of these cards. There is some problem with misnaming FA311, wrong drivers etc. If you have choice of cheap cards go for Linksys LNE 100TX or D-Link 530TX, they are no problem cards.
