Greetings everyone,

I'm looking at the Netgear router (or any router that I can find a good deal on) and am jsut wondering if there's any reason it wouldn't work in my setup...

I have 2 PCs running Win98 and a cable modem. Originally I have a LinkSys hub that was letting them both connect to the internet at the same time btu then it stopped working for some unknown reason. I know that a router is what I need as opposed to a hub so that's what I'm looking for.

All This would be for would basically be having 2 PCs accessing the internet at the same time (not playing the same games or anything like that), being able to share files, and share a printer.

I'm assuming these requirements are just standards and wouldn't need anything special but if I'm wrong, and if anyone has first hand experience with TIme Warner's RoadRUnner service, please let me know.

Thanks,

Get the SMC Barricade for printer-sharing. It has a dedicated print server so one machine doesn't have to be on for the other one to print. Works very well, except you lose some bi-directional functionality (not a big deal, just can't check status of ink on some printers I guess...) I have this router connected to 4 PCs and RoadRunner and I have no complaints. It should also be cheaper than a 314 (got mine for like $90 through Hot Deals.)

Is the printer port it has for a parallel cable? My printer isn't specifically a Netowrkable Pritner (HP Deskjet 895cse or something like that). Also where'd you get yours from?

Sorry I took so long. Yes, its a parallel printer port. Yes, it works with the 895Cse (that's what I have!) You just can't check ink status/do printhead alignment (but I never run those utils anyway.) I got mine from NECXdirect (used a coupon though...)
