Netflix SuperHD is only available...for the second season of House of Cards

In another thread some members said that Hulu, iirc, had a great super hd option and that Netflix also had one.

So, I call up Netflix and they say you need Windows8 with the Netflix app to stream SuperHD. Then when I called Netflix about another issue for a client they told me the only thing they have in SuperHD right now is the second season of HOC, but that at the end of April they will roll it out for numerous titles.

So, just an fyi. Also a wtf the first call they never mentioned it was only for one title. Fortunately I got one of those helpful customer service reps the second call.

Another thing that was a wtf moment is that when I call because my customer couldn't stream HD on their 70Mb internet connection is that Netflix told me there are lots of problems using Internet Explorer and the only solution(problem occurred after a clean install and on my personal computer too) is to use Firefox or Chrome. Is Netflix having a problem with MS? Does MS only want to support Netflix on Win8?

On a computer you can only stream in super HD in windows 8 with their app. Otherwise on a computer you top out at 720p. Just about everything meant to be hooked to a Tv supports super HD, I get it on my Sony bluray player. And there are a ton of titles available in super HD. What ISP are they using? Some of the ISPs in the US are having a fight with Netflix making for a crappy streaming experience. I use Comcast which was one of the worst but they finally came to an agrement recently and I'm finally starting to get 1080p quality again.

I'm only going by what the Netflix rep told me that only HOC is available in SuperHD. Are you saying the titles available in SuperHD are internet service provider dependent?

btw the rep told me the end of April they are rolling out numerous SuperHD titles.

btw I have Comcast which just signed a Netflix deal.

When they came out with SuperHD, Netflix initially said only certain ISPs would support it. Not sure what the status is. Many show/movies on Netflix list themselves as being SuperHD FWIW.

I read at a few places on the web they have opened it up to all isp's.

As for number of titles either the second Netlix rep is wrong or what I read was incomplete and they are limiting titles based on isp.

When I get the Win8 machine up in a few days I will check it out.

I read the first two and the third has been posted numerous places on the web and is lot of just common internet knowledge.

Though your display of arrogance was welcome and will make you many friends here and get you accurate help when you need it and not intentionally wrong answers due to your condescending manner.

Yeah, they have rolled out superHD to a number of devices but not, unfortunately to Windows7. It has something to do with security of the stream, according to various places on the web.

Yes, I was only going on what the Netfix rep told me. You're the second person to say its inaccurate so the Netflix rep either goofed or its because I have Comcast.

I only use Netflix for Blu-ray. I have yet to be satisfied with the quality of streaming from any service.

I only have problems getting HD some evenings during "primetime". Otherwise until the recent problem with Internet Explorer I almost always got HD with no buffering. Now that I am using Firefox I don't anticipate any problems. I have a pretty fast, 70Mb connection and my area doesn't have much congestion.

Aha. It all makes sense now. I wonder how HOC looks in the Netflix version of 4k? I am actually excited to get my win8 computer up next week so I can download the Netflix app and try it.

I am kinda disappoint that the Netflix rep who seemed to know her stuff gave me some bad info. I can usually tell which reps are talking out their ass.

Huh? I see the "superHD" indicator on LOTS of movies for several weeks (months?) now. I heard it makes no difference anyway if your ISP doesn't have the content caching system that Netflix provides to them.

No idea, I couldn't get 4K, although I think the production value would make it at least be worthy of being shot that way, for the most part.

I wouldn't blame them, I'd blame the stupid marketing and other stupidity of modern spec ratings. She probably just got them confused or maybe they haven't been briefed on UltraHD since not many people would be able to stream that yet. UltraHD, SuperHD, TrueHD. OMGWTFBBQHD.

with netflix normally they stream at 720p for HD movies at something around 2.3Mbps or higher, though sometimes they will do 1080p at 3.8Mbps bitrate.

SuperHD is still 1080p but at a higher bitrate of 5.7Mbps up to 7Mbps

UHD is 4k resolution and requires 15.7Mbps or faster.

1080p can look awful with a low bit rate (higher compression). What Netflix calls "SuperHD" is just a higher bit rate than their other content. It's all MUCH lower quality than a Blu-Ray movie...which can be over 10x the bit rate.
