Netflix on PS3 = Garbage

So I got my disc recently, excited to stream some netflix without the awful 360 noise, and am hugely disappointed.

The whole thing is extremely slow. From "Updating your choices" to clicking the play button. Oops, someone sat on the remote and sent you back to the selection menu.. Great, another 10 minutes before you can continue watching your show, not only that, but it didn't remember where you left off for some reason.

Back to my 360 I guess. I'd take the noise over having to wait 10 minutes to get a show started any day.

Yeah, no problems here. The PS3 interface is pretty much identical to the interface on the Roku streaming box. Works great, I think better than the 360 version in a lot of cases.

works fine for me on my ps3. everything updates just fine. It remembers where my movies left off at.

Na it's definitely better on the 360 and rightfully so. The menu is tons better on the 360 which helps navigating a lot but other than that there's really no differences.

hmm well this is good news then I guess.. I'll need to figure out what is wrong with my PS3 since 360 and PC both stream Netflix fine and they are all plugged into the same hub.

360 have ports forwarded (or in the DMZ) and PS3 doesn't? (or isn't?)

I do wonder if it's related to your connection. How fast are you PSN download speeds (you can test this with any demo, for example)? If you run broadband speed tests (ex: speakeasy.net), are they comparable to your PC?

A lot of people have issues with the PSN being slow...and Netflix may draw from those issues.

If so, I created a post a long while back (something like "Slow PSN?") that shows you a couple ways to speed up the PSN. One is to use a proxy program (Privoxy) for your connection. The other is getting a different modem. Details can be found in that thread or various places online.

However, it's not likely the case that this is the issue and/or this will fix it. I just thought I'd mention it.

Definitely a good suggestion ^^^. My PSN wasn't noticeably slow but just for giggles I used hans' recommendation and it was sped up pretty considerably. I don't use it all the time anymore, but it definitely works.

Went over to a friends house to check it out and it worked pretty well. It took a little longer to load then the 360 version but to us the picture quality was better especially on hd movies...they were very nice. One good thing about it is you can use the ps3s browser to go to our que and change it from there.

How's the video quality?

hit or miss.

HD isn't terrible, actually; but seriously noticeable compression. definitely better than cable faux HD.

I was checking bit rate for a few HD broadcasts, and they were topping at ~ 5 mbps, AVC.

Even some of the non-HD flicks have pretty good quality. ...Some are crap though.

Works fine for me, watched the dumb fun movie The Mutant Chronicles.

The PS3 remote works normally, but the series of stills used for FF/rewind is weird I agree.

mine works fine and starts up in 20-30 seconds each time. I prefer the ps3 interface to the 360 one

Is it just me, or do I find it completely hilarious that you need a Netflix DVD in PS3 to steam? -- Why don't they just provide it as a firmware update?

They will eventually, but this was the fastest way for them to get something working out the door.
