Netflix on PS3 aspect ratio

We have a 42" 1080p LCD. I've noticed sometimes netflix streaming will scale fully, sometimes it won't and look completely squished (and of course with its side bars).

If I force the tv to go 16x9, it will then look stretched.

anyone have any suggestions?

I got my netflix PS3 disc in the mail yesterday. I watched a few instant stuff and it looked fine on my HDTV.

Name the movie / show and I will check it out later this evening and report back. Also ... meanwhile ... see how it looks when you stream to a PC.

specifically, try dexter, anything in the middle of the season, as well as the first episode. Law and Order SVU whenever they started shooting widescreen (I think S3 or so).

on both pc/mac it all plays as it should.

I will add DVD's play fine, and if it's a 4:3 dvd, it will output properly as well. as have any video files.. all played well in the proper widescreen format.

oh, if it helps, the tv is reporting 480p output. Not that I care cause it's streaming, but not sure if that might help in any diagnosis. Though, if the Wii disc gets shipped soon, I might just use that, ha
