Netflix Instant Streaming on PS3: Can PC with BD-ROM run it?

So last month I got the Netflix Instant Streaming disc and I've been enjoying awesome HD streaming for weeks now. Like many of you, I'm bothered by the fact HD streaming is only available on consoles/STBs, and not via Netflix.com on my HTPC/laptop/etc.

That said, the mechanics of the PS3 Instant Streaming disc intrigue me. Why is a disc required (i.e. why couldn't this be implemented via downloaded app from PSStore?) Of course, a little digging reveals that Netflix Instant Streaming is actually a BD-Live disc!

Unfortunately, while my BD-ROM can read the disc, I can't access the Instant Streaming interface through PowerDVD as it appears to use some custom BD-Live keys or DRM to lock it out. So does anyone know of any projects to hack this?

Yes it is. I don't understand what the OP is asking then.

+1. OP, what do you mean by this? just go to netflix.com and choose the "watch instantly" tab when you login.

Make sure you use IE (unless they changed it to add FF support since I've done it?).

I don't have Netflix, but according to the OP, HD streaming is not available through the normal PC interface?

This is true...no HD streaming with PC.

I would guess, yes, just a guess, that the program on the Netflix PS3 disc is written for the PS3 operating system only. Meaning it probably won't run on Windows / OSX.

They have a deal with Microsoft that the xbox is the only console with netflix streaming. So they got around it by making a BD-Live disc that just so happens to work with the PS3.
