So after many months of careful budgeting and savings, and a pay raise, I can finally join the ranks of the elite by splurging on Netflix. I just got it two days ago so haven't had a chance to explore my options (been stuck on Top Gear reruns), but it seems that I could only browse 250 movies per genre. Is there an option where I can browse all they have in inventory for any category?

Are you browsing on a pc or something else?

Generally I sort by rating so I don't have to sift through garbage, but there are some good low-rate movies. Almost all horror and sci-fi is low-rate and for good reason.

I use it on the 360 mostly, pretty awesome app they have on there. You can even search and add to queue inside it.

PC, PS3, 360 or TV. Only gives me 250 per category. Sometimes I don't know what to search for so I just browse, agreed that they should have an "I'm feeling lucky" option.

Strange, on my PC netflix gives me 800+ suggestions.

I think you mean the "masses." I don't think the "elites" are too keen on streaming low quality junk to their HDTVs/projectors.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend the "elites". I'll have to budget for the $2.00 extra per month for next year so I can get the Blu-ray delivery option. Meanwhile my TV up-conversion and poor eyesight is more than make up for what my mind can see.

One of these days, I too will enjoy high quality entertainment with you fine folks.

yeah, on the pc you can look at all sorts of stuff, they have thousands of movies....be sure to rate stuff as you watch it, or rate stuff youve already seen so you can get good suggestions

the ps3/wii/xbox gives a more limited choice, tailored based on your rating, but you can still search for stuff on those as well

The Universe is on Netflix streaming. I just became aware of that two days ago. Great series to watch on the bedroom TV before falling asleep.

The categories on most of the devices (PS3, 360, and iphone are the ones I know about) only display a limited selection from each category. You can still search for them or watch them, but if you're just browsing you won't see all of it. The PC interface should have everything though which you can then add stuff to your instant queue and view it on any device.

In my experience, the best way to setup netflix streaming on the PS3 has been to develop a queue using my PC. The stuff that is "recommended" by the netflix app is almost universally junk.

That said, my wife and I were surprised to find the TV series, "Pillars of the Earth" on netlfix streaming. Although different from the book in many ways, it was some of the best TV I have watched in many years.

I'm bummed that they changed the UI on the PS3. Now it's a lot more difficult to find videos by genre

It was amazingly simple a few months ago. :|

I don't usually use Netflix to find things unless it is a documentary.

Since you seem to be streaming, see:
Exit Through The Gift Shop

It is awesome.

Yeah they absolutely fucked the PS3 layout. It's so damn terrible now.

Yah, netflix is great, I do wish that more of their streaming stuff was HD, and that they streamed their HD a little bit better video quality, but, It seems better than HD cable broadcasts...

Anyhow ... I'm kinda worried about the incoming Uverse monthly data cap, 250GB is not a lot of HD content....

yeah, they changed it some 3 times during the last 4 or 5 months, and it's gotten progressively worse.

On top of that, I can't exit the fucking program! (I used a logitech Universal, so without a mappable PS button, I can't exit Netflix.).

that, and it took me a while to realize that he fast forward and rewind functions had somehow moved form the actual FF/RW buttons to the menu L/R buttons.

I really liked Pillars of the Earth. Is that one series the end, or is there to be expected another series of episodes? It seemed like it ended, but it also felt rather open...

I think most of my enjoyment, though was in waiting for Ian McShane to bitch slap a ho, though. Alas, it never happened. :(
