Netflix for 50% off for 3 mnths (YMMV, existing subscribers)

I know there have been some Netflix deals posted in the past, but I've never seen this one:

I just called to cancel my Netflix account (the service is great, but I live a frisbee's throw from a Hollywood video AND a Blockbuster now) and they offered me 50% off for 3 months if I stayed on. I've been at the $14 for 4 movies/month level, so for the next three months it'll be $7/month.

i wouldn't mind only having two movies at a time, but not just 4 a month.

still tho its a good deal, i may call em tomorrow and see if they'll hook me up with a deal. (i'm on the 3 out right now) did you just call and flat out tell them you wanted to cancel your account or did you word it differently?

They offer the deals before the cancel confirmation button. Just click the cancel membership button on the "my account" page and it will list the offers before you actually cancel.

It didn't work. I didn't get any offers and it took me to the login page. I logged in and then I only had a choice to go back to my account, or complete cancellation. How long were you a member for?

I only see $19.99 a month. How did you get 4 for only $14 a month?

When I went to cancel, I was presented with an 800 number to call to complete the cancellation. It was here that they offered me 50% off.

I signed up for the 4 movies a month by going to 'Your Account' and clicking 'Upgrade or Downgrade Your Membership'.

I've been a member since December 2001. Interestingly, on their website under 'Your Account' you can view your 3 month rental history and request they email you your entire rental history. I'm doing this to figure out my actual per-movie cost.

edit: FYI - just figured out my average cost per movie since I joined - $5.26 each. Granted, I've had a bad habit of letting movies sit for a month or more unwatched, and back in my Blockbuster days I paid my share of late fees, but it's definitely something to think about...

there isn't a choice for 4 movies for me. Its either 20 bucks for 3 movies, 30 bucks for 5 movies or 40 bucks for 8 movies

I guess I'll try it out. 5 dollars saved is 5 dollars earned for beer

I just signed up for their free trial. On the last day I chose to cancel they offered me their $20 plan for $15 for 6 months

If you cancel, you must return all outstanding rentals within 7 days, or we'll automatically charge your credit card for the unreturned DVDs. No refunds or credits are given for partial months or unwatched movies.
