Netflix coming to Wii this Spring!

And the 360's will still require Gold, even though all their competitors now allow Netflix for free.

Well, now I have two free ways of watching NetFlix once my XBL Gold sub runs out. Yahoo? :\

To be fair, the 360 NetFlix program is far superior to the free PS3 one.

Yes I hate XBOX requiring live. I am forced to physically transfer my PS3 from my media room -->Bedroom almost every night to be able to watch Netflix.

One of this days I am going to trip going up the stairs and break a hip or worse drop the PS3.

I have a 360 in my bedroom and would love to just keep the PS3 in the media room.

They are probably going to be stubborn about it and keep it Xbox live gold dependent.

<---idiot that never got tversity to work with Xbox 360

peace

It's faster in all regards, whether it's loading menu thumbnails, browsing the menus, downloading the movies, fast-forwarding/rewinding, etc.

The video quality is better.

The interface is much better. The 360 version shows screenshots when you're fast-forwarding/rewinding, for example. The 360 version's menus are much cleaner and easier to navigate.

I have both. I've used both regularly. The PS3 version is serviceable, but the 360 version is just way more polished and refined.

Maybe I'm stupid but I just got a ps3 and the Netflix disc an hour ago and just tried to fast forward and rewind and it shows screen shots while doing so.

Mine doesn't, but I got the disc when it first came out a few months ago, so maybe it has been updated since then? 😕

Mine shows the picture frames for fast forwarding too.

Having used both, the 360's is a bit better at loading. But not worth paying Gold for. Obviously most people have gold because of online play for games, but if you don't it's not worth it as compared to the PS3 free version.

I have the one of the orignials netflix ps3 discs, I have the screenshots from the fast forward and rewinds as well

I pre-ordered the PS3 disc before they were shipping. My PS3 shows the screenshots in ff/rewind. The speed and video quality seem the same as my 360 Elite but I haven't tried using a stopwatch.

Perhaps it's a bandwidth thing, my PS3 is connected by wired cable to the router for my cable modem.

Xbox live really isn't the expensive.
$5 a month
if you get on one of the frequent 12 month sales, 30$ for 12 month, the price is so negligible...

Not really. That's still a game a year. I'd rather play more games on the PS3 than less games on the 360, both with online.

I just picked it up for $35 for a whole year. Please tell me how that is expensive. A dime per day?

We understand that you enjoy free PSN goodness, but do yourself a favor and don't try to make your logical fallacy of an argument work.

This is a netflix thread. Netflix should be on the free account, or whatever the fuck they call it on XBOX. Paying for it when every other netflix-capable device offers the service for free is a slap in the face to XBOX owners. Then again, XBOX owners are known for being nickel-n-dimed...

I just hope Netflix works well on the Wii and looks good.

Yeah Xbox Live Silver is free. They claim that Xbox Live Gold gives you a one of a kind Netflix experience.

With watching flicks with Xbox buddies and such....

Xbox has sealed the deal for a year to where they are the only console that allows built in Netflix which is why the PS3 & Wii need a disc.

Now parents have a chance to have the kids watch Instant movies in there room.... However Netflix never made a parental control system....

I don't believe my PS3 Netflix shows screen shots with FF/Rewind, and my 360 Netflix does. They are both hooked up wirelessly to the same router. It's not a bandwidth issue, since they are both on the same wireless network. The PS3 Netflix also has to load every time you FF/Rewind, even if it's only a few seconds, whereas the 360 Netflix seems to have a buffer where it only has to reload if you go too far forwards/backwards.

What kind of argument is that? It doesn't matter how "inexpensive" it is when every other platform (PS3, PC, and soon, Wii) does it for free. $35 is enough to buy a game, for example. XBL might be worth $35 in some people's opinions, but the only thing I use it for is the occasional online game and Netflix. That isn't worth $35 a year in my opinion when free alternatives exist. That is one of the reasons I asked for (and received) a PS3 for Christmas -- I hope to eventually use it for everything and push my Xboxes to the sideline.

I got 13 months for $29.99.

XBOX Live really is worth it. Having both and experienced both, PSN is fine for what it does...free online stuffs. But XBOX Live is the superior experience...it's not even close.

Oh look...Dari hating on the 360. What a shock! 🙄

I do agree though about one thing though...this is a NetFlix thread.

XBL is definitely better (or at least, much easier to use and more intuitive), I'll grant that. But for me, the only thing I do is play the occasional game and watch Netflix. I really think Netflix should be included in XBL Silver because if that were the case, I could probably do without XBL Gold completely.

I agree. I was just pointing out that for the little price that XBL Gold incurs (and really, who pays full retail price for XBL?), it is the far superior experience. But yes, PSN works and works just fine...it's just not as good as XBL, naturally. You get what you pay for.

I think that NetFlix should be part of the regular XBL Silver membership, since Gold was supposed to be only for online gaming, but it would appear that Microsoft feels differently and is trying to add more incentives to justify still charging for XBL Gold. What can you do? /shrug

Well, I asked for (and received) a PS3 for Christmas from my wife. I am hoping to eventually use it for Netflix and gaming and maybe only use the 360 for the occasional older game. I was just sick of dealing with the 360 hardware issues -- I am on my fourth one. Of course, I bought a Pro on clearance and right after I bought that, my Elite died. Had I known that Netflix was coming to the PS3 (it had not been announced at the time), I would not have bought the Pro.

I am anxious to see Netflix on the Wii, but I am pretty skeptical about how it will look.

I've also used both. I believe the 360 version is a bit faster/smoother when browsing, but I also feel like the layout on the PS3 makes more sense. That just comes down to personal opinion.

As for actually loading thumbnails, fast-forwarding, downloading movies, etc...it's just as fast on my PS3. The video quality is the exact same as on the 360.

I also get the screenshots that you apparently didn't. I suppose you are judging it too early on (which seems to be why most dislike it more).

But, yeah...if Sony offers something for free online, I think Microsoft should do it as well. It's getting to the point where given what PSN offers, I see no reason why I should have to spend $35-50 a year to play games online. I can already do it for free on my PC and PS3. So what if I get a couple extra features with Live? PSN always works extremely well for me. That can't be said about Live. When I had it, the online gaming experience itself sucked.

FYI, you can download a free trial of Playon for 14 days.. works on your Wii, Xbox, Xbox360, PS3...

lets you stream Netflix, Amazon VOD, Hulu, + much more. it sits on your PC and streams it over your lan to your console.
