I'm dying to get my hands on a netbook. My friends don't get why anyone would want one... but having a tiny ultra-portable laptop just sounds awesome to me.

Have they gotten any cheaper? The Dell Mini looked cool, but was a bit expensive... Any sub $300 yet?

Edit: oops feel free to move out of OT

There was a good pcworld article on this a week or so ago...It was on reddit. Virtually they mentioned the MSI Wind, Eee, and Dell Mini. Newegg had some on sale...

I want the IdeaPad s10 in white. I used to have a x31 so I'm used to small screens

I think it was Asus that was planning a $299 model.

The Wind and Acer One are available for $350.

Personally, I thought the 8.9" One was too small.

I am hoping someone throws one on sale for ~$250 before Christmas. I would love to get my son one of these.

There have been a few ~$250 Netbooks, at least that I've seen.

I have an eee pc 1000. I just installed ubuntu on it, and the thing is pretty sweet. I wouldn't want anything less then 10 inches though.

Size doesn't matter, it's what you can do with it that matters.

I was just looking on ebay, they seem to have a bunch of eee 1000ha's from zipzoomfly for around 420, which would be just under 300 shipped with cashback.

I believe the fully loaded Wind is on eBay for $400 (160gb HDD, 1gb RAM, 6 cell battery, XP). Actually, it kinda pisses me off, because I got the same config for $500 not even a month ago (October 30th).

I have the MSI Wind with the 6 cell battery. It's pretty awesome. Has a 10" screen and the battery lasts over 5 hours. I am using it right now.

I liked the wind the best because of the larger screen and the larger keyboard. The other netbooks have cramped keyboards.

Yeah, I think having a decent keyboard will make a big difference.

So what do you like and dislike about it? Is the screen too small for a lot of every day functionality? What do you use it for, just browsing?

Heh, I bought TWO of them (one for me, one for wife) at $500 +20 shipping minus cashback. Ahh well, just the nature of tech deals.
