Sadly there seem to be absolutely ZERO reviews what the screens of these netbooks are like outside.
I am very strongly considering getting one (for the beach or the park) but don't want another one of these laptops that is essentially unreadable/unusable outside.

anyone?
photos would be awesome.

Basically, no glossy screens.

Have you ever used a laptop/notebook/netbook outside?
Most "outdoor screens" are crap which is why you either need to see it for yourself or have someone take a photo.

I have a glossy screen on my laptop. The few times I've tried using it outside, it was nearly unreadable. Going with a Matte screen and one that is generally meant for outdoor use is your best bet.

The problem is, the screen only puts out so much light, so that small amount of light is drowned out when you go outside or use it in a bright window.

I have had matte and glossy screen notebooks. None of them are very readable (for me) outdoors. Part of the reason is that outdoors usually means battery power - and that usally means a dimmer screen.

The best solution I have found is a folding hood.
