netbooks, netbook CPUs

Hello, I plan on purchasing a netbook in spring/summer for travelling. I'm a lover of new technologies, so I'd like to ask: will there be Ivy bridge processors for netbooks? 22nm technology with decent integrated graphics sound very good.

so no 22nm processors for netbooks this year? ultra books really too expensive for my wallet. Though appealing they really are.

What is your price range? I have an E-350 (HP dm1z) and it's great. I honestly wouldn't bother with an Atom based machine until Intel gets around to updating the architecture

How are you defining "netbook?" The original definition is basically something really small, really cheap and really slow. 😛 If Ivy Bridge is inside it, then it can't be really cheap or really slow.

If you're willing to pay more, you can get (or will be able to get) netbook-sized units with Ivy Bridge in it at prices higher than traditional netbooks.

For instance, I have a Samsung Series 3 notebook that many would consider a netbook. It has a ULV Core i3 Sandy Bridge with HD 3000 graphics, an 11.6" screen and weighs 2.9 pounds. However, it also has an MSRP of $700.

yep, amd e-350 based "netbooks" are findable for ~$300-350 usually, next to that there are sometimes pentium dualcores on the cheap, and rarely you'll see stuff like the dell inspiron 11z with the i3 330u for this price range

i wouldn't count on there being a "cheap" ulv ivybridge notebook at launch though as the sandybridge deals are pretty uncommon

Well my budget is around 600$, so I guess I should be able to find a low end ivy bridge ultrabook at that price?

You would be able to find the AMD version of ultrabook. It is supposed to be 500-600 dollars when released. As for date of release, I have no idea. 😛

as long as the "ultrabook" doesn't have an SSD and isn't quite as thin (thus technically not an ultrabook), $600 should be easily doable

Yeah, no Ultrabooks for $600, but you should be able to find nice compact and lightweight notebooks for that price.

To be an "Ultrabook" it has to be a certain thinness and use an SSD or SSD caching.
