Netbook/Ultraportable LCD quality - MacBook Air vs. others?

Vivek published a review of the Asus EeeeeeeeeePC 1215N today.

This was actually one machine I was considering before I finally decided I didn't want to pay $500 for low CPU performance. $300 maybe, and definitely not over $400.

So, I got the Acer 1810TZ instead, which is basically the 1810T benched in that review minus a few % of performance. It runs circles around the 1215N for CPU.

However, the most interesting thing I found about the review was his assessment of the displays in the various models. The MacBook Pro 13" (which I own too), just blows away all the other machines on the list, in most categories. I can personally confirm that the Acer 1810TZ has at best a mediocre screen, but I really like the image quality of my 2009 model MacBook Pro - definitely well above average.

I haven't had a chance to put the Air through its paces, but in-store it looks like it has a decent screen too. The things that bugged me about it were the loose hinge (that Anand also noted in his review), and the mediocre battery life because of the 35 Watt-hour battery. The stock 64 GB SSD didn't impress either. And of course, there's the cost.

Has anyone compared the Air to the others for display quality? For this reason I'm still considering the Air when it hits version B, but it really needs to get better battery life and a bigger SSD.

Are there any other 11-12" laptops with decent screens, but that don't cost $1000?

i dont think that review really means the macbook pro has a hugely better screen.

contrast ratio and maximum white levels are really a function of having a very powerful backlight. color gamut also related to it

color reproduction at normal backlight levels seems way more important to me.

Well, the MacBook Pro's screen is noticeably better than my Acer 1810TZ's, even though the colour accuracy table has them in the same ballpark for.
