netbook screen/display issue

The screen will not "refresh" itself unless it's in a very specific (and seemingly slightly random) position. Also, it tends to go super bright, or just display black while being super bright (often with a grey/white "grid" displayed among the black). The display needs to be randomly moved around (angle-wise) until it's in a "working" position, and then not moved.

I disassembled it almost entirely, and saw no problems with the motherboard to display connector (either end). I reseated both ends anyway. Despite this, the problem with the display remains.

I'm assuming it's a dying component involved with the "power feed" to the display (on the motherboard)? In which case I'm further assuming that there's nothing I can do aside from wait for it to die (there's no way I'm going to bother fixing this unless it's a 10 dollar fix, and I doubt a motherboard or whatever else the component is will go for that cheap).

There could be a chance that is the cable. Inside the wires broken, hence when you move the screen they make some contact.

Agree with Aris; those cables are cheap and susceptible to broken wires and/or crimping. I would think you can get a replacement cable for ~$10.00 but you'll most like spend an hour or more disassembling the laptop and display to change out the cable.

I already reseated it. The cable looked fine, but I might try it again with a new cable entirely if it's not the connectors, but the cable itself.
