Netbook: Eee PC 900HA or Acer Aspire One?

Looking for a netbook to be purchased within the next week. Overall form factor is probably the most important thing to me, as well as screen resolution. Must be at least 1024x600, run XP, and be in the ~300 - 350 USD price range

So far I've landed on either the Acer Aspire One (Blue)

or the ASUS Eee PC 900HA XP

HDD size doesn't matter. As long as its over 40GB that's all I'll need. Prefer a unit that can be upgraded to 2GB RAM. My main concern is a small very portable form factor with enough screen resolution to actually do something on. It will be used for is tethering my my phone so I can do minor updates on web pages, and manage my server on the road.

Open to other options than those two as well.

check some deal sites. you can get the 1000ha for about the same as the 900 you linked, just as well get the extra inch if you can

edit: i found a link Text

Hmmm just noticed the janky right shift key on all the ASUS models, that could be a deal breaker for me since the way I type I would constantly be hitting the up arrow instead, and maiming lines of code above the spot I really want to type at.

The 9" Acer Aspire One can only do 1.5GB of RAM and you have to dissasemble the whole thing to get at the RAM slot.

Most of the netbooks out have a variation that fits your requirements. Pretty much all of them use the 1024x600 resolution. Your other options are the MSI Wind, the HP Mini, the Dell Mini (which is available next month) and a few others.

Show me why any netbook needs more than 1Gb. I have yet to exceed the 1Gb in my Aspire One yet and I've thrown all sorts at it.

Vista. 2GB on an MSI Wind and that thing is a dream compared to using XP. It also looks and functions better on small screens than XP does.

I'm still undecided between either Vista (Ultimate) or Window 7 once I get my hands on both the Asus 1000HA (from ZZF for $299) and a 2gb dim ($17) from the Egg.
Here is a mini review Window 7 on Asus 1000H and another for Vista on Asus 1000H review.

I recommend the Asus 1000HA since it has a slightly bigger screen size, 6 cell battery in return of a small penalty of 3.1 lbs heavy but its benefit is huge. It can last you the entire coast-to-coast flight w/o a recharge.
I missed a couple of sales on ZZF but two nights ago I finally got lucky in which I was able to land it for $299, shipped to my door.

I used to have the 900HA and if i were to buy a netbook again id go with the 1000HA. The extra inch doesnt matter that much but the keyboard might be a little better for me than the cramped 900HA's . Plus itll give you 50% more battery life.

I had 2GB on mine and it ran vista ultimate just fine.

xp benefits from 2gb. swap off - ramdisk for temp files.

vista and 7 are the same speed man. don't believe the hype. tried it. both vista and 7 are a bit slower than XP.

1GB on OSX is faster than 2gb on microsoft xp,vista,7 🙂 fwiw
