You're still getting an HP.

All quips aside, you're getting some serious bang for your buck - but I'd really suggest on reading up on recent reviews of the laptop (or possibly its precursor) that you're looking at, and focus on the build quality; while I got a decent deal on the prior laptop that I had (HP DV7T) considering the specs on paper - little did I know the build quality was absolute shite; the keyboard was absolutely mushy beyond compare, the screen flexed, the HP bloatware was intrusive and some of the media pads (like the volume control) wouldn't work unless it was installed, etc.

Admittedly I heard that they've improved their QA so best of luck to you and hope it's a nice system, but I've been burned (my wife also had an HP) and heard many other horror stories in the past so I'm staying away.

Thanks for your feedback. I been not only reading, but saw a similar model at best buy. Most of the complaints are the clickpad, you have to get used to it like the macbook pro ones are just weird at first.

One review said the unit wouldn't boot with a usb drive in it, so i brought one to best buy, stuck it in and rebooted it, no issues.

Bloatware is an easy fix. Most of the complainers are just that, complainers. Besides, HP has a 21-day money back if i really don't like it.

Laptopmag.com rated this as one of the top 10 laptops, right up there wit the macbook pro. From the pricepoint, I can't find any brand/make/model of similar specs.

As far as warranty, squaretrade can offer a 3-year.

Looks like you did your homework; I'd say gogogo!

After much consideration, I cancelled the HP laptop order. Decided to get a netbook instead, portability is the main concern,

Any netbook suggestions?

Wait until the Llano A4 laptops and ultra-portables come out.
