Netbook: 11.6" Celeron 1.3ghz Dual core $300 *GOOD PRICE??*

JEDI

Lifer
Dell 11.6", 2gig ram, 160gig hd

6cell battery
11.6 inch High Definition WLED Display (1366x768)
Bluetooth Wireless Card 365
Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor SU4100 (1.3GHz/800MHz FSB/2MB cache)

I bought the Single core version for $225 a few months ago (but 3cell battery and no bluetooth). Gave this to my parents.

Is dual core worth the extra $75?

Sounds like an Acer Timeline series? If so, yes, that's a smoking deal. Where'd you find it?

It's a Dell. Updated OP.

$300 w/coupon.

Still deciding whether or not it's worth $75 more over the single core version.

oh wait.. it's a Pentium dual core, and not Celeron dual core?!

Single core -> dual core is a pretty big jump. I'd do it in a heartbeat for $75.

Keep in mind that the SU4100 isn't your "average" netbook processor. It's closely related to the Core 2 Duo line, and really isn't a slouch in every day tasks. You wouldn't want to encode videos or play demanding games on the machine, but it'll run MUCH smoother than your average netbook.

Edit: ah, it's the Inspiron 11z. Where are you getting the excellent price on it? When I configured it as you described, it was ~$500. Edit2: nevermind, you said with coupon.

thx.

just bought it.

assumed it was a dual core version of my celeron 1.3ghz.
Then as i was replying to your post, i noticed it was 😱 PENTIUM 😱 dual core.

I was like NO WAY. Dell jumped from celeron single core to a Pentium for the dual core version?

Reading comprehension would have saved me an hour deciding 🙂

Yeah, the "original" SU series of Intel processors are really quite nice. They're broken up into two categories (as far as I know) - Core 2 Duo, and Pentium (which is essentially a C2D with half the cache). Then it's just a matter of core count and clock speed. In the end, they're really just down-clocked Core 2 Duos (with or without the full cache) that sip power. The SU4100 is definitely not a slouch, like I said.

Same specs as the Acer in my sig. Its an awesome little laptop. The only thing which turned me off the dell 11z is the touchpad and the protruding battery. (It was a bit cheaper than the Acer too)

300 bucks is an awesome price for it. Here in australia they cost ~700-800 bucks.
