NETBEUI on WinXP

I run a network with 4 computers; two are on Win95b and the third is on WinMe. The fourth computer is on WinXP (bulid 2600). All of the computers on my network are using the NETBEUI protocol for networking. They are using TCP/IP (with NETBIOS disabled) for browsing the Internet.

The Win95b and WinMe machines see eachother. They do not see the computer running WinXP. The computer running WinXP does not see them. All of my computers are all on the same workgroup, they all have unique names, they all have at least one share. They ALL can access the Internet.

I installed the NETBEUI protocol on WinXP (copied it from x:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NET\NETBEUI\), but my WinXP machine still cannot see any other machines on the network. Nor can I access them manually by opening a specific address (\\computer\mp3s\ for example).

Since each machine can browse the Internet, I have a feeling that my problem stems from the fact that I have not bound NETBEUI to file and printersharing. Thus I cannot use file and printersharing over NETBEUI. However, in the Local Area Connection Properties on my WinXP computer, for the NETBEUI protocol, the 'properties' button is greyed out. This means I am unable to bind the NETBEUI protocol to file and printer sharing for windows.

I am at a loss for what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

OK, thanks. Sorry, everyone, about posting this thread in two forums (I know it's sort of against Anandtech etiquette) but I figured that mabye the Network forum didn't get as much traffic as this one. As my problem is fairly urgent, I felt justified in being a scofflaw. ;)

won't happen again
